Now that the nice days of summer (and apparently fall, too) are behind us, John has started on his favorite project again: working on finishing the house. This is Tom and Reuben's room, darn near done.... just the trim pieces to go up now. The way it looks the place will be fairly well done by the end of this winter... God willing... It has really been brought home to me these past few months, that we just don't know what tomorrow will bring, now do we? I am sure Cindy would back me up here.
To say we have lots going on here would be an unbelievable understatement. I have to say if one more thing happens to demand my attention/action/brain processing, my head will detonate.... which would not be all bad.
It is a well known fact that I consider a person's relationship with their Savior to be of the utmost importance in life.... I have often said that there just is nothing more important. And along those lines, at our house this is not halloween, this is REFORMATION DAY! Every Reformation Day I praise God for His work through Martin Luther. Through Luther the world heard that by SCRIPTURE ALONE, GRACE ALONE, FAITH ALONE are we saved.
We cannot earn our way to God's favor... it is nothing that we do, our good works cannot save us, our money cannot save us... It is by God's grace that we receive this gift of faith... faith in Jesus' death on the cross for our sins ... faith in His conquering of death on our behalf... and we know this because Scripture tells us it is so. I am so thankful that in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we still hold fast to the inerrency of Scripture... we believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God!
Alleluia! "Lord, to whom shall we go? YOU have the words of eternal life!" John 6:28
So... knowing this, knowing that our help is in the name of the Lord, why is it so hard to call on Him to help us resist temptation? I had opportunity again this morning to remind one of my kids where to go for the weapons to fight the evil foe.... It is the BIBLE kiddo, and prayer... You don't have to go too far to see that people generally do not have it in them to say "NO" to the unholy, unhealthy desires in their hearts! Get Help From God!! Just Do It! Sin is crouching at your door, but you must master it! Don't just let the devil entice you into the toilet! PUT UP A FIGHT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!
And if I had "A Might Fortress" on MP3 you bet it would be on my blog today... I am PROUD to be a MISSOURI SYNOD LUTHERAN ... Here I Stand!
A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
By: Martin Luther
A Mighty fortress is our God,
A trusty shield and weapon;
He helps us free from every need
That hath us now overtaken.
The Old evil foe
Now means deadly woe
Deep guile and great might
Are his dread arms in fight;
On earth is not his equal.
With might of ours can naught be done,
Soon were our loss effected;
But for us fights the valiant One,
Whom God himself elected.
Ask ye, Who is this?
Jesus Christ it is,
Of sabaoth Lord,
And there’s none other God;
He holds the field forever.
Though devils all the world should fill,
All eager to devour us,
We tremble not, we fear no ill,
They shall not overpower us.
This world’s prince may still
Scowl fierce as he will,
He can harm us none,
He’s judged; the deed is done
One little world can fell him.
The Word they still shall let remain
Nor any thanks have for it;
He’s by our side upon the plain
With his good gifts and Spirit.
And take they our life,
Goods, fame, child, and wife,
Though these all be gone,
Our victory has been won;
The Kingdom ours remaineth.
