Mary is in first grade now, with a great teacher and an equally swell aid, but I, paranoia victim that I have become, was worried they would never see a bad behavior (typical of a Reactive Attachment kid to show nothing but sweet to all but family). Most parents would be thrilled if their child did not misbehave at school, but not me. I need Mary to show her colors at school not only so people will realize what we live with at our house but so that she will get the appropriate supervision, intervention and resources enabling her to address her challenges ...rather than cover them up only to have them emerge at a later date in some sociopathic form (no, I no longer think that is an over reaction). I am happy to report that she threw a nice (though short lived) fit at school today, so at least they got a feel for what we have happening here... sigh...
In other news, homeschool has been going very well :) I have only 4.5 kids at home for school this year (Becca is doing some post secondary options at the community college). It seems like there is next to no one here! I feel like there is some good education taking place this year :) I decided the kids should be reading some classics, you know, rounding them out a little bit. That has been a lot of fun! We have read To Kill A Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, The Outsiders, The Good Earth, Great Expectations, My Side of the Mountain. Oh I love to read.
Pete and Josh are running a trap line again... 6 beavers so far, 4 over 50lbs.

Sorry Mary's being difficult again, although it's great that she's doing well in school, too. When I started reading your blog it seemed rather hopeless with her.
Also, I envy you for having beavers... They're so tasty.
((HUGS))
Do you read Tudu's blog? ( http://tudusamom.blogspot.com/ )
She adopted a large sibling group a few years ago and they've got some significant "issues." This post made me think about a lot of the stuff she writes about and thought you might like to read her blog if you don't already. =)
Good luck!!
You trap beavers! Oy.
jenni (beaver) lol
Sooner or later her true colors will come out. However, what I have experienced in the past is the school turning the other cheek in order to avoid providing any types of services. Just a mention so that you know that if you see it at home and you always hear she is perfect at school---- they might be lying becau it isn't disruptive enough for them to address it.
As another mom who homeschools some (4 this year) and public schools others, for various reasons - congratulations to you!! Both on an enjoyable homeschooling year thus far - and on Mary's little fit, hopefully on her way to getting appropriate interventions. Woohoo. :-)
