Hangin On...

...to the last shreds of summer.
See my clothesline here. It needs a little maintenance. Something that I have not bothered with because this is one of only 6-8 times I have hung clothes out this summer. This summer has really been a stinker for warm, breezy, clothes drying on the line days. The gardens are not much to speak of. We have already had several good frosts, but we covered as much as we could and ran the sprinkler on the big tomato garden to keep the frost off, hoping that some of the fruit would ripen... sigh... No green beans, few beets, sparse tomatoes. What a summer.
But the last three days in a row have been above 73 degrees... guess where I have been? Hanging out at the clothes line, literally, and reading a book on the deck between loads. I have also been incredibly brave, swimming in the pool which is a bracing 73 degrees. Tomorrow's high is near 80 (pretty sure it will be the only day of its kind this whole season) so we are declaring a LAKE DAY! We will cram in a little school in the morning and then we are going to fish, swim and tube all day long.
Right now it is a fabulous 75 with mostly clear skis... I gotta get outside; I am burnin' daylight here.

Oh, I feel for you with the clothes line. We've had such a wet summer here, even stuff that's been in the dryer some times still has a moldy smell by the time it's dry. Lucky for me I have few enough clothes to do laundry only when I have a warm day to hang it, but even so, some times it's taken three or four days for jeans to be completely dry. Finally I gave up last week, I had NO socks left that didn't smell moldy, so I soaked them all in hot water and Pine Sol (I didn't have any bleach) and then washed everything in HOT water and dried it for 50 minutes in the industrial dryer. Horrible waste of energy but I couldn't stand the musty clothes anymore.
