Yesterday we took a little field trip to the Maritime Museum in Canal Park. We have been there many times before, but at every age the kids learn/retain something new or different. We got to see an ore ship depart, too. It is way cool to watch the aerial lift bridge go up and watch a ship go through the canal. They are HUGE!

The very first time we went to Canal Park and saw a ship go out, Lucas was just a sprout (22 years ago, making him 6?) and I was standing next to him holding on to him while he sat on the canal wall. As is the protocol, the ship gave out one long and two short blasts on its horn, which is then answered by the bridge. Well the ship's horn is sooooo loud it scared the snot outta me. I told Luke, "WOW! I almost threw you in!" And apparently back then he thought I was serious... at least that's how he told the story to the girls ;)
