Been a Long Time...

I have neglected my little blog. I guess I have been busy living and weeding and parenting and enjoying my big kids before they ditch me (er... before they strike out on their own) and I wish I had been documenting some of it. Well, here I go with an attempt to start again. Since I really need to be weeding the tomatoes (in case it warms up enough to set any fruit on the vine) this will be a quick one:
This idiot got into it with a skunk last night and just about choked us out of our home... On one of only three or four nights this year where it was warm enough to leave the windows open, we had to shut them just to be able to breathe... dufus...

Ole's secret formula for deskunking a dog: Mix Dawn dish soap 50/50 in a spray bottle and spray the dufus down. Then spray with a good coat of 409, then a good coat of Windex. Be careful around the eyes and nose. Add warm water to the dog and massage the mixture in very thoroughly for several minutes. Rinse very well and you won't have anymore skunk odor. Ole has run this by two different vets and they have told him there is nothing in the ingredients that will harm the dog. We've used this on Daisy (German Shepherd) several times as she doesn't seem to learn her lesson and needs deskunking periodically (4 times already this summer).

To get rid of skunk odor, mix 1 qt hydrogen peroxide, 1/4c. baking soda, and 2 tbsp liquid dish soap(except dawn) in spray bottle.

Safer than 409 and it works well, though they have the smell around eyes and nose for a while, but it isn't overpowering.
