Reuben Learns Cribbage

Wow, what a long, dusty, dirty day. We started our holiday clean up today. The beams and logs and light fixtures all had to be dusted down as John has done some tongue and groove work on the walls this fall. Lots of cobwebs full of fine wood dust from sawing. Unfortunately, I cracked a piece out of a pair of candleholders that belonged to my Grandma Wilson... which I have had for years and love so much. You can't tell it, they still look lovely, but I know the hole is there :( I know... its just stuff... Nothing lasts forever. Still, I don't have too many things that connect me to my past, and so I feel like I have damaged more than a candle holder.
Tom and Sharlene along with E came up again this weekend. I think they are feeling bad for me recently as my oldest kids have pretty much disowned me. I feel sorry for me, too, so it is nice of them to come around and perk me up. Also, Tom wanted to give a last try at getting a deer this season, but no... they did not get a thing... Not to worry, we will definitely share some venison with them.
Sharlene brought up a puzzle
this weekend... getting to be the new "thing to do" when they come up... everyone gets into it, and this time no one even hid the last piece (which is what Tom does so he can say he finished the thing!)!
We all stayed up late last Saturday, watching some old Columbo episodes Pete had bought, and waiting to get our socks knocked off by the awesome Leonid meteor shower... which only sputtered out two or three pretty meteors an hour. At least Molly got to see her first shooting star, so that was a neat thing!
Finally, I took some time out to help Reuben learn to play cribbage. Here Kat is giving him some pointers and he won the first game he ever played! He is very much looking forward to playing Uncle Tom (self-proclaimed 'best there ever was') and Uncle Bruce next 4th of July... kind of a rite of passage around here!
