Have you seen the blogs where the blogger notes at the top: What I'm Currently Reading: or What I'm Currently Listening To ?
Since this summer, when I really started reading again, I have thought to blog about it (I know, how lame is that to blog about taking time to read... however, anybody with a bunch of kids can identify with my lack of a "real" life, I assure you... and ok, so you're not interested in what an old lady with too many kids takes time to read, go ahead and roll your eyes and close this window... you can lie to me later and say you were fascinated).
Now I cannot figure out how to make the neat little "click on it" item at the top of my page (some even include "more books like this"!) but here goes anyway:
What started me reading again:
James Herriot... my absolute favorite author. I have read this series three times. I might never have picked up these books in the first place had my oldest daughter Kelly not insisted I read them way back when. I finished up my summer with the second book in the series. This particular copy belonged to my Grandma Wilson. All the way through I kept sniffing the pages... it smells exactly like my grandma's furnace room in her basement :) ...
sure took me back.... so I sniffed and smiled a nostalgic smile, missing my Grandma Wilson and my childhood all the way through this book. (an aside: My grandma was a big time reader. She gave her kids books as gifts and happily some of those have made their way to my library.)
The only serious parenting book I have read since last Spring (used to be the ONLY kind of books I read), Beyond Consequences has challenged my traditional view of parenting, especially regarding children with traumatic pasts.
This next (I finished last weekend) is a book that my good friend, Beth lent to me.
Outnumbered... a humorous look at a large family (by birth and adoption), and a fairly accurate picture of what I have felt my calling as a parent encompassed ...though the author is about as Catholic as I am Lutheran Church Missouri Synod :)
And now what I am currently reading (yes! I am reading FOUR books at once!)
Almost done re-reading this classic...
started earlier this week for some light reading before bed after I finished Outnumbered. Ratty and Mole... I love this book.
Back to reading out loud to the kids every night now that it is fall again. We are half way through the sixth book in the Little House series.
This one I am halfway through, will finish this weekend, is a good read and interesting look at how women's attitudes toward money are all wrapped up in their emotions and desires for security... interesting insights.
And lastly... one I saw on someone's "What I am Currently Reading" list: I ordered from another library and Kat picked it up for me yesterday. I read several chapters last night... I love this kind of book, challenging the Politically Correct Status Quo... though some of it I might challenge if I actually had the time and energy to research it.... :)
