We had a time getting ready for church yesterday...more so than usual. My camera disappeared and I am supposed to take pictures at Sunday school to use in the next week's Bible song presentation. I finally found it in the laundryroom, with its memory card taken out :( I put the card back in and it worked fine, so I reigned in my temper.
While I was searching I kept smelling some really bad something every time I went near the laundry room... Nuts, I kept thinking.... where is that coming from. Then I discovered it. About five VERY UNHAPPY pairs of underwear IN a nameless person's dresser drawer WITH their clean clothes. GOSH, UGH... What next? We left for church rushed, late, with me feeling more than a little crabby.
Then at church... a BREAKTHROUGH! Matt has been fairly reserved emotionally since he has a been with us... 10 months now. He lets me hug him and kiss him, but never really comes to me for a hug. During church yesterday he came to me and said, "Mom will you hold me? Can I sit on your lap?" Well, you bet... absolutely! I just ditched every unhappy thought I had for that morning I felt so good! While I was snugging him up and stroking his hair he started to whisper stuff to me: "Mom... remember when this place was all decorated? I like that." He told me a few more things and then this: "Mom... I was a baby ass." Excuse me??? "I was a baby ass." Oh no, I am thinking... what the heck kind of revelation is this? I must have looked like I felt because he said it again... "I was a baby ass." Oh my gosh... I get it: "I was at VBS!" whew... We have had so many revelations that needed addressing lately, I guess my "adopted kid filter" was on auto-pilot.
This morning I went out to hang clothes on the line and Matt followed me out. Right in the middle of the yard was a dead muskrat, no doubt drug up from the paddies by one of the dogs. I said, "Matty, go tell Pete to come here, there is a dead muskrat in the yard." Pretty soon he came back with Reuben who said Pete wouldn't come... Reuben then says disgustedly, "Matthew this is not a big mulch crap!" Guess I am not the only one who has some trouble understanding Matty :)
